Climbing Wall Award Training

This two day course covers the Climbing Wall Award Training and will closely follow the MLTUK syllabus.

The majority of the course will be held at Mile End Climbing Wall. To
fulfil the syllabus objectives we will use a nearby climbing wall on the
second morning.

This course does not include the abseil module.

The following aspects of the syllabus will be covered:

  • The climbing wall environment
    Risk Assessment
    Group Management
    Injury prevention warming up
    Bouldering warm up / games
    Practical use of the wall
    Equipment
    Analysing movement and coaching strategies for teaching basic movement skills
    Structuring sessions
    Short and long term climbing development
    Personal Climbing / Leading
    Artificial Structures
    Top Roping
    Responsibilities and legal aspects
    History climbing wall development, competition climbing, the role in the BMC.

The day starts at 09h and finishes at approximately 18h. There will be an hour for lunch (please bring a packed lunch) and tea brakes during the day.

    Harness
    Belay device
    Helmet
    Chalk bag
    Warm comfy clothes
